Traditional Taiwanese bubble tea mixes black or green tea, milk, chocolate syrup, and cocoa powder, creating a creamy, chocolatey drink. It’s known for its chewy tapioca pearls, or “boba,” which give it a unique texture. You can drink it hot or cold, making it suitable for any weather. This drink is perfect for bubble tea and chocolate fans, providing a delicious and satisfying treat.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup brewed black or green tea (cooled)

  • 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)

  • 2-3 tablespoons chocolate syrup or 1-2 tablespoons cocoa powder

  • 1/4 cup tapioca pearls (boba)

  • 1-2 tablespoons sugar or sweetener (optional, to taste)

  • Ice cubes (if serving cold)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tapioca Pearls:

    • Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the tapioca pearls and cook according to the package instructions, usually about 5-7 minutes.

    • Once cooked, drain and rinse the pearls under cold water. Set them aside in a bowl.

  2. Brew the Tea:

    • Brew a cup of black or green tea. Allow it to cool to room temperature or chill it in the refrigerator if you prefer cold tea.

  3. Mix the Chocolate Base:

    • In a blender or mixing bowl, combine the cooled tea, milk, and chocolate syrup or cocoa powder. Blend or whisk until the mixture is smooth and well combined. Add sugar or sweetener if desired and mix until dissolved.

  4. Assemble the Drink:

    • Place a generous spoonful of cooked tapioca pearls at the bottom of your serving glass.

    • Fill the glass with ice cubes if you are making a cold version.

    • Pour the chocolate tea mixture over the tapioca pearls and ice.

  5. Serve:

    • Stir gently to ensure the tapioca pearls are evenly distributed.

    • Enjoy your chocolate bubble tea with a wide straw to easily sip up the chewy boba.
