Garlic is super flavorful and can be used in so many different dishes from all over the globe. Today, we’re going to learn how to make your garlic paste right at home.

Ingredients:

  • Garlic cloves (peeled)
  • Olive oil (optional)
  • Water (optional)

Instructions:

There are two main methods for making garlic paste:

Method 1: Using a blender or food processor

  •  Peel the garlic cloves. You can also remove the green germ in the centre for a milder flavour, but it’s optional.
  • Add the garlic cloves to your blender or food processor.
  • Blend with oil (optional): Add a tablespoon of olive oil for a smoother consistency. You can use water instead of oil, but oil helps prevent browning.
  • Blend until smooth: Blend until you get a smooth paste. Scrape down the sides as needed.

Method 2: Using a mortar and pestle (traditional method)

  • Peel the garlic cloves.
  • Grind the garlic: Add a few cloves of garlic to your mortar and start grinding with the pestle. Add more cloves as needed and continue grinding until you get a smooth paste. This method takes more effort but can be more flavorful.

Useful Tips:

You can adjust the amount of olive oil or water depending on the desired consistency.

If you’re not using the garlic paste right away, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week or freeze it for longer storage.

Mincing garlic with a knife and salt is another option, though it won’t be quite as smooth as a paste.
